Steps would be taken to avail medical board certificates to the disabled persons in Mogral Puthur and to include deserving families of disabled persons in the BPL list, said DistrictCollector P S Mohammed Sageer.
The newly-appointed district collector on Friday afternoon visited Mogral Puthur panchayat, where the number of people with mental and physical disabilities have been found high.
According to the data available at the panchayat, there are around 154 mentally challenged patients in the panchayat.
A team led by the collector visited areas including Kunnil, Pernadukka and Blarkod in the panchayat.
He promised that necessary steps would be taken to upgrade the PHC in the panchayat with the help from NABARD.
The collector also lent an ear to the problems faced by the families of the patients, and said that the deserving families with low income would be given BPL ration cards.
On visiting Babitha, a patient in Pernadka SC colony, collector assured that the family would be offered help to construct a new house.
The collector also said that doctors under the district health department will holda medical board sitting soon and the rehabilitation of the patients would be done in phases.
MLA N A Nellikunnu, Deputy DMO Dr Mohanan, NPRPD district coordinator T Nazim, Social Welfare officer Narayanan, Taluk Supply officer P Ramakrishnan and Mogral Puthur Panchayat president Najma Abdulkhader accompanied the collector with other panchayat representatives.
Earlier, Minister for Social Welfare M K Muneer, former collector V N Jithendran and P Karunakaran MP have visited the panchayat.
