CUTTACK: A Crime Branch officer on Sunday allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old woman over a land dispute at Madhupatna. The woman Urmila Das has sustained serious head injuries and has been admitted to SCB Medical here.According to reports, the dispute was between inspector of Crime Branch Braja Mohan Das and Mamata Lenka over a patch of land bought by the latter in the vicinity of Madhupatna Police Station. The land was adjacent to residence of Braja. Mamata, who has a travel agency in the City, said she had bought the land in August and constructed a small house on it. She was staying there with her daughter and family of her cousin Urmila, including her husband and son. She alleged that Braja had nursed a grudge against her after having failed to get the land in question. And, the dispute was persisting between the families over it. On Sunday morning, a quarrel broke out between the families. Matters soon took a violent turn and the policeman allegedly assaulted Urmila with a brick. The inspector has also filed a counter FIR against Mamata and Urmila alleging gross misdemeanour by them. Two cases have been registered, Madhupatna police said.
