HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Tuesday asserted that it had taken sufficient precautions of traffic management and safety aspects for smooth and safe movement of traffic on the PVNR Expressway.Reacting to reports that the NIT, Warangal, in a study, had pointed at deficiencies in the maintenance of the expressway, the HMDA said it had conducted a road safety audit, through an EPC contractor, to identify problems faced by users of the expressway and the safety aspects too.The contractor carried out the audit through the transportation department and the department of civil engineering, NIT Warangal. The NIT had carried out the riding quality tests in September last year and the road safety audit in December last year. The NIT reported that the riding quality is within the limits of IRC and MORT&H recommendations. But in its safety audit, the NIT had broadly given its observations of deficiencies such as maintenance of signages, visibility of signages, suitable markings on emergency lay-bye/parking, street lighting, outgrowth of trees on to the flyover, dust on the road margins and its effect on the visibility of lane marking and the lack of set back for one building at the turning near Mehdipatnam. The study also suggested remedial measures. The HMDA claimed that most of the issues raised had been attended to.“The tree branches on the flyover are removed and damaged street light poles and lights are rectified. The Traffic Police have been alerted and they have increased vigil on the expressway to prevent two/three-wheeler movement on the flyover,” the HMDA said, adding that the NIT suggestion that a noise barrier be provided to one of the buildings close to the flyover at Mehdipatnam was under the consideration of the Project Management Consultant.
