BANGALORE: Amid a boycott by some of his disappointed party colleagues and faced with a number of hurdles, D V Sadananda Gowda took oath as the state's Chief Minister at a function held at the Raj Bhavan's Glass House on Thursday."I swear in the name of God," he said, as he took oath, administered by Governor H R Bhardwaj. The ceremony was graced by his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa, BJP national general secretary Ananthkumar, state party chief K S Eshwarappa, state general secretary C T Ravi and scores of former ministers of the previous government. As the state leaders' efforts to persuade CM-aspirant Jagadish Shettar to take oath as Cabinet Minister failed, it was decided in the afternoon that Sadananda Gowda alone will be sworn in as Chief Minister. Before the oath, Gowda had tried his best to persuade his rival camp to join his Cabinet. He called on both state BJP president K S Eshwarappa and former minister Jagadish Shettar at their residences.Gowda is said to have offered 14 Cabinet berths to Shettar's camp while promising to share a few plum portfolios with them. But the Shettar camp rejected the offer and are said to have told Gowda that all issues pertaining to Cabinet expansion should be taken in the presence of national leaders.Gowda and other leaders are expected to go to Delhi on Friday or Saturday to sort out the issue.
