KOTHAPATNAM: Participating in a dharna on Vadarevu and Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor (Vanpic) at Alluru village in Kothapatnam mandal of Prakasam district on Sunday, Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu demanded that the Central Government evolve a comprehensive land acquisition policy to better safeguard the interests of farmers.Vanpic victims launched the agitation at Alluru five days ago demanding the state government to return their lands. All the opposition parties, including the CPI, CPM, Lok Satta, BJP and TDP, extended their support to the agitation.Naidu alleged that the lands acquired for Vanpic were being used for real estate ventures.Interacting with the victims, Naidu asked Metnamsala Jaya Rao whether he was paid compensation for his three acres of the land acquired for Vanpic at the rate of Rs 3.97 lakh per acre. The farmer replied that he was paid Rs 3 lakh per acre only by a middleman.According to guidelines of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) of 1991, no industries and constructions should be set up indiscriminately along the coastline. But the government formulated the Coastal Management Zone (CMZ) by modifying the CRZ, paving the way for setting up industries.Vanpic promoter Nimmagadda Prasad, who invested Rs 800 crore in Jagan group of companies, and Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, who is a close relative of Jagan, got benefited from the project. He urged the victims to continue their agitation till their lands were returned. He alleged that the Congress and YSRC offered lucrative packages to the TDP leaders who join their parties.“We are least bothered about political migrations. We will not request anyone who wants to leave the party to continue in the TDP.”TDP candidate Damacharla Janardhan and other leaders also participated.
