A day after a 20-year-old flight attendant from Nagaland was thrown off during a joyride and killed, the sub-collector on Wednesday informed the staff of the amusement park that it could not operate unless it gets clearance from the local tahsildar. Meanwhile, the police said two others, including the general manager of the theme park were arrested, while a case has been filed against its founder chairman and managing director.
The police said they had arrested EVP World Theme Park’s general manager Babu and accountant Manivannan, and have registered a case against its founder and chairman E V Perumal Samy Reddy and his son E V P Santhosh Reddy. Efforts were on to arrest the owners.
Meanwhile, Tiruvallur sub-collector Ravi Kumar arrived at the park to conduct an inspection and check if the park had proper records. However, the park was locked. The sub-collector informed the guards there that the park could not open until it submits its records and gets a clearance from the Poonamallee tahsildar.
“There is no single window system or a statutory body to get clearance for running amusement parks. I visited the park as there is a police case now and wanted to check their records to know if they have all the required permits,” sub-collector Ravikumar told Express. “But since the owners are absconding and the staff members arrested, there were only two security guards. Hence, I informed them that they could not operate unless they submit records and get clearance from the tahsildar,” he added.
Local authority sources said that since there is no law to regulate the construction and operations of such parks, clearances are usually obtained from various authorities like the local panchayat and its chairman, pollution control board, etc. “There should be an engineer to check the worthiness of the rides,” an official opined.
