Ahmedabad: A racket of fake currency circulation, allegedly being run from Pakistan and Dubai via Bangladesh, was busted by the Gujarat Police on Wednesday with a seizure of counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 26.18 lakh, police said.
The notes were in the denomination of Rs 500 and 1,000, a senior police official said, adding that 14 persons, including a woman, were arrested. The arrests were made across five districts in Saurashtra and Kutch region.
"BSF officials and SP, Malda (West Bengal) had informed us that the forged currency was being supplied from Pakistan and Dubai to Bangladesh...from where it reached dealers, agents and sub-agents across the border and was transported to the country," Chittranjan Singh, in-charge DGP of Gujarat, said.
"FICN was being pumped into India primarily through the train route," he said. The weekly train between Malda-Surat, and Howrah and Puri Express trains were being used for it.
The accused have been remanded in police custody for 12 days by a judicial magistrate in Jamnagar.
