BALASORE: A woman patient of the district headquarters hospital had a close shave after a wing of a ceiling fan fell off on Thursday. The woman, Snehamayee Patra (55), of Basta received minor injures on the head after the wing hit her. She was undergoing treatment in the female medicine ward.The patient’s relative Paramananda Patra said, “A screw first fell from the ceiling fan on her bed and then the wing came flying down,” he said. A hospital staffer said it was an accident. The patient has been thoroughly examined and the injury is not grievous, he said. Meanwhile, the fan has been replaced with a new one and engineering service has been ordered to check all the ceiling fans in the hospital. ADMO (family welfare) Shasanka Acharya, however, declined comment. Poor construction quality of the building and lack of maintenance have taken a toll on the gynaecology ward here.
