Faridabad: Auto-rickshaw drivers in Faridabad in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Saturday gave free rides to commuters to mark the swearing-in ceremony of Arvind Kejriwal as the Delhi Chief Minister.
Auto-rickshaw union leader Sitaram said they were very happy with the Aam Aadmi Party's victory in the Delhi assembly elections and expressed hope that the new government led by Kejriwal would fulfil his promise of providing permit to NCR autos to ply in Delhi.
"We hope that the Aam Aadmi Party will fulfil its promise of providing permit to NCR autos to ply in Delhi," Sitaram said. Meanwhile, President of the All Haryana Auto Rickshaw Union Vasdev Aheria claimed that some auto-rickshaw drivers who had gone to attend the swearing-in of Kejriwal offered free rides to their friends and those going to the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
Many people were sharing information on social networking sites that auto-rickshaws in Faridabad were giving free rides but it was not true, Aheria said, adding that some of the auto drivers only took people to the venue of swearing-in for free of cost.
