Deputy Director of Agriculture Department M Sheela said the financial assistance and the seeds would be distributed in a week. As per the scheme, the students and teachers will be part and parcel of the project. The Agriculture Department has decided to select 200 schools in the district to implement the project.The project can be taken up in full swing only if the school responds to it positively.Yet another mandatory requirement of the scheme is the availability of land to set the vegetable gardens. The schools must have at least 10 cents of land to get benefit under the scheme, she said. The department has directed all the offices of the Krishi Bhavan in the district to implement the project within a week.The Vegetable and Fruits Promotion Council has been entrusted to provide seeds to the schools. Moreover, the selected schools will be given a financial assistance to the tune of Rs 2500.
