New Delhi: As the sound of crackers resonated in the capital on Diwali, fire brigade personnel were on their toes last night receiving over 200 calls from across the city about fire-related incidents.
The fire brigade got calls from almost all parts of the Capital about fire-related incidents but no major fires were reported, the officials said. "We have received over 200 calls till 7 am today but no casualty has been reported," they said. Out of the 200 calls, 116 calls were related to crackers, the official added.
A medium fire broke out in a godown in West Delhi's Sagarpur area at around 8:30 pm on Saturday but no one was injured in the incident. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the
spot and the fire was brought under control within an hour.
To meet any eventualities during the festival of lights, the fire department had set up 16 temporary stations and deployed over 125 water tenders and high-capacity bousers.
Over 100 fire tenders, with a capacity to carry 4,500 litres of water each, and 25 bousers, which can carry 12,000 litres of water were deployed on Sunday. The workshops of the fire department also functioned round-the-clock.
Besides, around 900 personnel were on duty on Sunday. Earlier, the employees have been asked not to go on leave on Diwali anticipating an increase in workload. Five persons were charred to death Friday when a fire broke out in a cracker shop in a congested residential locality in southwest Delhi.
