New Delhi: In a major bureaucratic reshuffle on Thursday, Rajiv Mehrishi, who retired as the home secretary earlier in the day, has been appointed as the next Comptroller and Auditor General.
Mehrishi, a 1978-batch officer of the Rajasthan cadre, stepped down from his post of home secretary after a two-year tenure. He will replace Shashi Kant Sharma, who is due to retire as the CAG on September 24.
The government also appointed Sunil Arora as an election commissioner. There was a vacancy in the poll panel after Nasim Zaidi retired as Chief Election Commissioner in July. While Achal Kumar Joti is the CEC, Om Prakash Rawat is the other Election Commissioner.
As many as 17 civil servants have also been appointed as secretaries and additional secretaries in various central government departments on Thursday.
The reshuffle included the appointments of three senior bureaucrats as Deputy Comptroller and Auditor Generals. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Ashwini Attri, Anita Pattanayak and Ranjan Kumar Ghose as Deputy CAG, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.
Attri is a 1981-batch officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. Pattanayak and Ghose belong to 1982 batch of the service. Ghose's appointment to the post is in the rank and pay of secretary to the government of India, the order said.
