Said Jahnvi Reddy, owner of 365 Events, whose initiative it was, “The point of this awareness was to tell people to not to depend on the government to do something that can be done by ourselves. Plastic ban should start from home.”The walk brought out the mayor, Greater Municipal Corporation and vice chairperson of All India Council of Mayors, Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy, president of the Loksatta Party and MLA from Kukatpally constituency, Dr. Jayaprakash Narayana, actors Kamal Kamaraju and Nishanthi Evani among others in support of the ban. Prior to the walk, the assembeled enthusiasts discussed measures to combat polythene. Said Reddy, “The most common solution agreed upon was to refuse plastic bags. Shops would automatically shift to alternatives like paper or cloth bags.” Perhaps one of the youngest member at the walk was this 10 year old school child who suggested that besides avoiding using plastic bags, we should all plant a tree. The mayor also stressed on the importance of educating the public on the hazards of using plastic bags.
