HYDERABAD: Vinayak Chaturthi might be still a month away but preparations for the festival have already begun. The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi office was inaugurated on Sunday morning at Baheti Bhavan, Siddiamber bazaar to coordinate city-wide celebrations, which starts from September 1.The Samithi will coordinate proper organisation of festivities across the city. General secretary Dr Bhagvanth Rao said they will ensure the mass procession at the end of the festival is a grand success. Further, a helpline number will be made available to other organizations for addressing their queries and problems.Criticizing the exposes on different godmen and saints, senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya said the festival should serve to strengthen the fabric of Hindutva. “Vested interests who choose to malign the image of Hindu culture and religion have not even spared a person of the stature of Sai Baba. This festival is an occasion to unite all Hindus in the name of protecting our culture, traditions and customs,” said Dattatreya. The need to maintain peace and calm during the festivities was also stressed. Members of the organization also expressed their displeasure at the need for a police permit for installing the idol. The demand for free electricity to light up pandals was raised and the BJP leader said the issue should be taken up with the state government.
