THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb has said that the State Government will examine whether there were any flaws in the decision to consider the marks of the Plus-II exams along with the marks of the entrance examinations for admissions to engineering colleges. The Minister told reporters here on Thursday that the decision for the reforms was taken with the sanction of the AICTE. Though the decision was to implement it for the medical entrance examinations also, the MCI did not give sanction. The decision to give equal weightage to entrance marks and Plus-II marks was implemented from this year’s entrance admissions. The issue became controversial following complaints that the method of normalisation of students who wrote the Plus-II examinations under various boards were against the interest of students who wrote the examinations under the CBSE and ICSE streams. On the issues relating to the normalisation process, he said that the present statistical method adopted for the normalisation process was approved by a set of expert statisticians. If anyone could suggest a better method for normalisation process, the Government is willing to implement it, he said.
