CHENNAI: The First Bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and JusticeTS Sivagnanam has deplored the attitude of government servants in abetting encroachments on government poromobke lands, canal porombokes and water bodies.
"We fail to understand when officials from the rank of Collector up to tahsildar and PWD engineers are deputed in all the districts, how encroachers are first of all allowed to encroach such government poromboke lands, waterbodies,' the bench wondered."We are, therefore, of the view that instead of issuing notices to the encroachers, we shall first issue notice to the officers of the State who are incharge, to show cause as to why appropriate recommendations be not made to the government for initiation of disciplinary proceedings against them for allowing encroachment on government lands and waterbodies,' the bench said.
