The J&K government has banned telecast of five "obscene" channels as they are against public morality and decency.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has imposed a ban on five "obscene" channels in the state.

The Director of Information, Khawaja Farooq Ahmad Renzu, has issued instructions on banning the telecast, transmissioin and re-transmission of five satellite channels with immediate effect.

He said the channels — Blue Kiss, Blue Kiss Express, Blue Kiss Promo, TBL-XXX and REN-TV — are showing programmes, which are against public morality and decency.

Khawaja Renzu has directed all cable operators and private channel operators to stop airing such channels.

A number of militant organisations in the past have also banned "obscene" channels in the valley.

Recently a private cable operator in the city had been attacked. However, the grenade exploded at a distance without causing any damage.
