New Delhi: Hours after Haryana health minister Anil Vij asked for Gurugram’s Fortis Hospital’s lease to be cancelled, father of the 7-year-old Adya, who died of dengue alleged that the hospital had offered him money to end his campaign against the hospital.
Jayant Singh, who had to pay Rs 16 lakh as hospital bill for treatment, alleged that the hospital had offered him a cheque of over Rs 10 lakh and an additional Rs 25 lakh.
"Senior members of Fortis met me, offered me a cheque worth Rs 10,37,889 refunding the entire amount... They also said they will be offering me Rs. 25 lakh cash on top of this," Jayant Singh told news agency ANI.
Singh further alleged that the hospital wanted him to sign a legal agreement to end his campaign against the hospital and not take any legal action.
Anil Vij on Wednesday asked the Urban Development Authority to cancel the hospital's lease. The Haryana government has also sought an FIR to be registered against the hospital.
"We are going to lodge an FIR against Fortis for criminal negligence. We will also write to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to cancel their license. Moreover, we have also given a notice for cancellation of blood bank in that hospital," said Vij.
The parents of a seven-year-old dengue patient, Adya, were billed Rs 16 lakh for a 15-day stay by Fortis Hospital in Gurugram, at the end of which, the girl died.
The itemised bill, which ran 19 pages long, shows how Fortis charged the parents for 661 syringes and 2,700 gloves, among other things, that were supposedly used during the treatment.
The father, Jayant Singh, who lives in Dwarka, had paid the amount upfront but accused the hospital of inflating the bill and imposing arbitrary costs. Despite the high cost, he said, the doctors paid little attention to Adya’s health.
