New Delhi: In a latest development in the Gurgaon Kidney racket case, the Haryana police on Sunday said the alleged mastermind behind the racket, Dr Amit Kumar, may have fled the country.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mohinder Lal said that its possible Kumar may have used his foreign contacts to escape.
Five foreign tourists, who had allegedly come for kidney transplants, were staying in Amit Kumar's luxury guest house on Saturday.
Police claim Kumar used six luxury cars including a Mercedes Benz, and two fake names for executing the racket.
Haryana Police raided a guest house in Gurgaon used by Kumar as a hospital and has seized some valuable documents. Another such hospital in Ballabhgarh was also raided.
The UP police also raided some places in Moradabad as part of the investigations.
In another revelation, police officials said that Dr Verma was earlier active in Mumbai where he allegedly went by the name of Santosh Raut.
Verma fled Mumbai in 1993 after jumping bail and since then he has allegedly been active in Jaipur and Hyderabad.
He reportedly set up his operations in Gurgaon one-and-half years ago and had organised over 600 transplants.
Most of his victims were daily wage earners and the doctors removed their kidneys without their knowledge.
The police have also identified four other doctors who helped Dr Verma in his work.
Moradabad Senior Superintendent of Police Prem Prakash said they were still looking for three other doctors.
Two of those arrested have been identified as Dr Upendra, an MBBS from Ballabhgarh, and the alleged 'quack' Jagdish.
"Three of their accomplices were also arrested during the raid on a house in Sector 23 A," the SSP said.
