BANGALORE: The state government has decided to set up Karnataka State Health System Commission on the lines of Knowledge Commission to suggest measures to reform the state’s ailing healthcare system.The state Cabinet which met here on Thursday approved the proposal. Briefing the media about the state Cabinet decisions, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs S Suresh Kumar said that a ten-member commission involving medical experts and bureaucrats will review the defects in existing healthcare facilities in Karnataka. It will also make suitable recommendations to the state government, the minister added.The commission will also look into the quality of health education, health care research and private health care system, he added.Another Private Varsity Gets NodKarnataka will soon have another private university. The Cabinet approved the proposal of M S Ramaiah Group to set up the M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. To be established at a cost of around `100 crore, this will be the fifth private university in the state.While Azim Premji University and Alliance University have already started functioning, other two proposed by Manipal and Jain groups have been waiting for the respective Bills to be passed in the Assembly.The Bills pertaining to all the three universities will be placed before the Assembly during the Budget session which would begin from March 20, Kumar said.The proposed university will deal with technical education, medical, management, naturopathy, life sciences and doctoral studies, he added.
