Monsoon rains are continuing to wreak havoc across the country. Incessant rains have triggered deadly landslides in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand.
Many houses have been crushed in the landslide and several roads including the Haldwani-Ramnagar highway have been blocked. Tourism in the state has also been hit with the Jim Corbett Park remaining shut due to heavy rains in the region. Earlier too torrential rains had triggered flash floods in the state in 2013, claiming over 5,000 lives.
Meanwhile fresh landslides have been reported from various parts of Darjeeling. The road connecting Mirik and Darjeeling to the plains Gayabari area has been blocked. Road connectivity to Sikkim has been cut off since Thursday. The roadblocks are holding up relief and rescue operations by NDRF and Army.
The death toll has touched 40 and many people are still missing. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and MoS Home Kiren Rijiju were in the state to see over relief work.
