Mumbai: Actress Hema Malini says she has evolved ''very little'' as a politician despite representing the BJP in India's Parliament for several years.
Fifty-year-old Hema was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2003. She made the comments alongside top BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, at the launch of her biography earlier this week.
''I have evolved better as a woman, mother, wife and actor and very little as a politician,'' she said.
Hema is an accomplished classical dancer, is married to actor Dharmendra and one of their two daughters, Esha Deol, and has followed them into the film industry.
The book, titled Hema Malini: The Authorised Biography, is more about the dancer and mother than the star and politician, said author Bhawana Somaya, editor of film magazine Screen.
''About two years ago, when I met Hema Malini after a ballet performance, she expressed her desire to be known as a dancer rather than as an actor,'' Somaya said.
''She asked me if I would write a biography that would bring out the other passion in her life dance,'' she added.
Hema has acted in more than 130 films. She was a major star in the 1970 and '80s when she was christened Dream Girl after she played the lead in a film by the same name.
She has staged a comeback in the Hindi film industry by acting in two recent hits Baghban and Baabul cast opposite film legend Amitabh Bachchan.
