KARIMNAGAR: The sacred lake 'Dharmagundam' at Sri Raja Rajeswara temple in Vemulawada in which devotees take a holy dip has been emanating foul smell since long.
With temple authorities neglecting the sanitary conditions of the 50footdeep lake and adding excess quantities of bleaching powder to water to subside the foul smell, the water is being polluted more. The cleaning of the lake which has to be taken up twice a week by the sanitation department is now being done only once in a month.

The murky water is causing health problems to devotees, especially asthma patients. The water has turned green due to freefloating algae.

Meanwhile, to fill the lake with fresh water, authorities dug up five bore wells within 5 km from the temple.

When contacted, temple EO T Appa Rao said they were planning to fill the lake with borewell water.

This apart, the stairs have turned very slippery causing problem for devotees.

What's your reaction?
