Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who will be retiring from Formula One at the end of the current season, has admitted he will not miss his team-mate Sebastian Vettel. Webber, who will be turning 37 later this month, spoke to the BBC's highly popular British motoring programme Top Gear.
"Um - am I going to miss Seb?" he pondered. "Probably not a huge amount, no. I think in a competitive environment, there's always going to be a bit of needle; there's a lot of history between us as well."
The ongoing feud between the duo made the headlines at the Malaysian Grand Prix this year when Vettel ignored a team order which subsequently denied Webber a victory. On being asked if he felt like punching Vettel afterwards the Malaysian race which denied him a win, Webber said: "My dad always says you shouldn't hit boys, mate."
Asked about the era of heavily-degrading Pirelli tyres, Webber said that "was the way it is". "We've got to learn and get on with it, but you've got to be able to push. In formula one it's about us boys being absolutely on the limit all the time. Or it should be," he added.
Webber and Vettel have driven together at Red Bull for five seasons but have not enjoyed the closest of friendships. Vettel is the current championship leader on 172 points with Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen (134) second and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso (133) third. Webber sits fifth (105) behind Lewis Hamilton (124).
In June, Webber announced that he would be leaving Formula One to race for Porsche.
