The Vinayaka Chaturthi or the Ganesh Chaturthi festival is just around the corner. Devotees across the country are busy with preparations for the auspicious days. In this Andhra Pradesh district, Ganesh idols made of clay are increasingly getting popular among the devotees, amidst concerns over environmental safety. In the West Godavari district, the clay-made Ganesh idols are being preferred by the devotees, with traders availing it for buying. As per the reports of Local18, the environmentalists have raised concerns over chemical-made Ganesha idols, which could pose a risk to the environment. This has created an awareness among the people and they have decided to switch to clay Ganesha idols.
The devotees have the option to buy the idols according to their required size. Clay idols sized, between 1 to 2 feet, can be found in the district. If anyone wants to buy bigger idols, it has to be made with bigger frames and better adhesive, which is not yet available at the district. The traders are bringing those idols from Gujarat. These are being sold to the devotees after receiving a polish.
The traders told Local18 that the idols will not harm the environment. According to them, idols made with plaster of paris can cause environmental harm.
