Residents in neighbourhoods like Kompalli in Telangana have found themselves increasingly vulnerable to a pressing and distressing concern: the rising number of stray dog attacks. In recent times, these attacks have become alarmingly frequent, resulting in injuries and fear among residents, particularly affecting children and the elderly. This unsettling trend has forced families to restrict outdoor activities, depriving children of their freedom to play and explore their surroundings without apprehension.
Repeated appeals to municipal authorities for protective measures have seemingly fallen on deaf ears, increasing the community’s frustration and sense of abandonment. In response to this dire situation, the children of Kompalli took matters into their own hands. Armed with placards bearing messages of urgency and safety, they mobilised at the local police station. Their intent was clear: to demand swift action and a solution to the stray dog menace that has disrupted their daily lives and instilled fear in their hearts.
At the forefront of their plea is a call for immediate intervention to relocate stray dogs to safer areas and implement effective preventive measures. Their protest not only underscores their anxieties but also highlights the collective concern of the neighbourhood. The children held up signs calling for a reduction in the dog problem in their neighbourhood. They organised a rally at the Basheerabad Police Station, where they submitted a petition to the Station House Officer.
During the event, the children, expressing their fear, appealed to CM Revanth Reddy, saying, “Protect our lives.” They urged the police to relocate the dogs from their colony to safer places immediately and address their concerns promptly. Many other residents joined the effort. Ultimately, the police assured the children that they would take steps to address the dog issue in the neighbourhood. The children’s courage in confronting authorities reflects a deep-seated desire for a safer environment.
