New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has summoned Pakistan deputy envoy over indiscriminate firing on unarmed Indian fishermen on October 11, one fishermen from Gujarat died in the incident.
"The matter is being investigated. Authorities will provide us the report upon completion," said Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson, MEA on US ship's detention in Tuticorin.
There is no news yet on the 30 Indian fishermen who were allegedly arrested by the Pakistani Special Marines on Saturday.
Five boats with 30 Indian fishermen were allegedly kidnapped by Pakistani Maritime Security Agency, which took them away from international waters off Jakhau coast in Gujarat.
"Pakistani agencies started indiscriminate firing on fishing boat 'Dhanvati', on Friday morning at around four when they were fishing in international waters," Porbandar Boat association vice-president Manish Lodhari said.
"When we were fishing in international waters, Pakistani agency boats came there and started firing on us. We managed to escape but one of our fellow fishermen died," Magan Soso, one of fishermen of five member team who were present on boat Dhanvati said after returning to Porbandar. "They have kidnapped 30 other Indian fishermen in their five boats," Lodhari said.
We have informed all the agencies about the incident here like police, coast guard and state government. We will be soon giving representations to central and state government on the issue," he added.
Earlier, Gujaray Chief Minister Narendra Modi had twiited, "Spoke to AK Antony ji on Pakistan's actions against Guj's fishermen today. Urged him that Centre should take a serious note & investigate it."
