BANGALORE: Inspector Ratnakar Shetty of Amrithahalli police station and Suhail, a constable attached to Sampigehalli police station, were booked by the Lokayukta police under the Prevention of Corruption Act on Wednesday. The police raided the station to catch the accused inspector, but he managed to escape. However, based on the complaint filed by a businessman Noor Ahmed, and conversations recorded by the complainant, Lokayukta sleuths registered a case. This is confirmed by the ADGP of Lokayukta Jeevan Kumar V Gaonkar.Shetty and the police constable raided a factory of tailoring machines on September 2 near Shivajinagar, owned by Noor Ahmed, and took him to their custody saying the machines were not original. Noor was under illegal detention in the Amrithahalli police station for two days, and the inspector left him demanding Rs10 lakh bribe to ‘close’ the case, the complainant alleged. However, Noor filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police later and they asked him to produce sufficient evidence on the bribery demand. Noor then went to the inspector Shetty and recorded the conversations of demanding bribe. Noor requested him to lessen the amount and Shetty asked him to go to Suhail. He went to Suhail and made a deal of Rs 2.5 lakh as bribe. On Wednesday, Lokayukta police asked Noor to go to the police station with Rs1.5 lakh, but on a tip off, Shetty and Suhail allegedly escaped from the police station.  Shetty was suspended several times when he was sub-inspector and inspector including allegations  like  false accident insurance claims.
