The book contains 20,345 proverbs, old and new, in all, with definitions. The work is significant since many of the proverbs in the language are on their way out and may sound quite strange to the new generation.KCHR collected the proverbs from the public and, later, organised a workshop to vet the entries. ‘’An elderly lady from Irinjalakkuda supplied us with 7,000 proverbs that were in her family for years,’’ Cherian said.The Chief Minister had said that the Government would be issuing a circular for popularising this book among children, teachers and libraries in the State.Two other important works that were released on Thursday were a tome on ‘Kolezhuthu’, a forebear of modern Malayalam and a Latin-Malayalam-Latin dictionary.
