BANGALORE: The Income Tax department has filed a case against Forest Minister CP Yogeshwar in the Special Economic Offences Court over alleged tax evasion. The court has summoned the minister to appear before it on May 18.The I-T officials had filed the case last Saturday and when the hearing came up on Tuesday, the judge, K Subramanya Bhat, issued the summons. I-T officials raided the residence and offices of Yogeshwar and had found property documents disproportionate to his known sources of income.Despite the department issuing notices to him repeatedly, he had reportedly failed to reply to them. The case has been filed under section 276 of the I-T Act. This is not the only case that the minister is facing. The Serious Fraud Investigation Office of the Corporate Affairs Ministry had filed around 14 cases against him, his family members and his business associates, including his personal advocate and chartered accountant.He is alleged of collecting money from public for sites under Megacity Project.The minister has also been accused of forgery.
