THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State is all set to intensify and strengthen the cooperation in the field of IT with the city state of Singapore. The decision was taken during the Kerala IT industry business mission to Singapore, led by Group of Technology Companies (GTech).GTech, the strategic group of IT companies in the state, took up this initiative to establish global linkages for the IT Industry in the state to help the small and medium enterprises scout for new business opportunities in the emerging markets.Companies from Technopark and Infopark took part in the mission, which was organised on the sidelines of the Pan IIT Alumni Conference held in Singapore.The business mission of GTech has led to renewed interest among the business community in Singapore at a time when Singapore has emerged as India’s top four investors, after the two countries signed a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) in mid-2005.As part of the efforts, GTech held deliberations with the government agencies such as Economic Development Board, Singapore and organisations such as Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation. GTech also used the opportunity to share the information on the Emerging Kerala event, to be organised in September.The GTech team could be able to showcase the larger picture of Kerala growth story, outlined by the emergence of a vibrant IT industry which is seeking a bigger role on the global stage, to the Singaporean business community.The South East Asian ICT market is offering unique opportunities for the Kerala IT Industry. Emerging sectors such as, Health, MICE, Transportation, Logistics and cleantech have been identified as the thrust areas for the Kerala IT industry to partner with the Singaporean counterparts.The South-East Asian region has also been witnessing high ICT adoption and investments, by the government on research and development projects. GTech team also held discussions with S R Nathan, former president of Singapore. He offered all his support for the initiatives to strengthen Kerala- Singapore business relations.In a press statement, GTech secretary, Anoop Ambika said that the organisation was developing a structural framework to build partnerships with institutions and business organisations in various countries to further fuel the growth of IT Sector in the state.
