ANANTAPUR: The Income Tax department has requested the Hindupur court to hand over Rs 35.5 lakh seized at Kodikonda checkpost on June 18.

IT officer Murali Krishna from Tirupati and others wanted to file a petition in the court for handing over the seized cash to the IT department.

However, with the court closed for the day, the IT officials have decided to file the petition on Friday.

According to sources, IT officials in their petition would explain to the court that the accused in the case were interrogated by the police and it was learnt that the cash belongs to the Satya Sai Central Trust. The IT department opines that since no evidence to support the claim that the cash belonged to Satya Sai Trust was found, the cash should be handed over to the department.

On June 18, Harish Nandasetty, Sohan Setty and Chandrasekhar were arrested in connection with the cash seized at Kodikonda checkpost. Based on the information provided by them, Prasanti Nilayam security officer Pradhan was also questioned.

With fingers being pointed at the trust members RJ Ratanakar and V Srinivasan, police had questioned both the trust members separately on different days. Later, at a press conference, Srinivasan claimed that the cash was given by some devotees for the construction of Mahasamadhi.

In the same press conference, Srinivasan and Trust council member Nagananda said they have provided the names of the devotees who have donated the amount to the court.

Meanwhile, IT officials in Hindupur questioned the three accused, who were let out on bail.
