Jagans wife goes to Court over his security

HYDERABAD: As Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy filed petitions in the HC on Wednesday challenging his arrest, another petition was filed by Jagan’s wife Y S Bharati Reddy seeking adequate security to protect her husband, who is currently lodged in Chanchalguda jail.Apart from this, the CBI and Jagan have filed two petitions each and they would be taken up for hearing on Thursday.Earlier, senior criminal lawyer C Padmanabha Reddy appearing on behalf of Jagan, told the judge that there was no need for further arguments in the case if the other side (CBI) has no objection (to grant interim bail to Jagan in the alleged illegal assets case). “Now, it is a crucial stage for by-elections”, he noted.The senior counsel argued that the CBI had arrested the accused on Sunday even though the latter appeared before it for three days in response to summons issued earlier. On Monday, the accused was produced before the Special CBI Court and was remanded to 14 days in judicial custody on the grounds that he could tamper evidence and threaten witnesses.YS Bharati Reddy, in her petition, requested the High Court to direct the concerned authorities to take all adequate and necessary arrangements for Jagan’s safety in prison. “In the past, instances of violence in prison occurred, including elimination of some prisoners. This leaves us concerned about his safety.His rapid and continuing rise in politics is not acceptable to other established political players, and they would like to use any opportunity for the purpose of thwarting his political threat by resorting to any unlawful means and methods”, she apprehended.The High Court sought instructions from the home department on the issue.Meanwhile, a Habeas Corpus petition was filed in the High Court.
