CHENNAI: Members of the DMDK, who are Assembly freshers, are taking classes in the House, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said on Wednesday. Participating in the discussion on the Demand for Grant to the Department of Prohibition, Home and Excise, DMDK member M Arun Subramanian (Tiruttani) said the DMK members who were in jail on land grab charges should not be allowed to use their political clout to get better amenities.Intervening, Jayalalithaa said she wondered as to what kind of influence the DMK had now. “The DMK has lost power. What is he trying to say? We don’t understand this. He must explain. All prisoners are getting the same kind of treatment.” Replying, the DMDK member cited reports in a section of the media to that effect and gossip to buttress his claim. In her retort, the CM said the member should not make generalised observations. “He must name the jail where such things happen. The government will take action.”When Arun Subramanian said he will file a police complaint on the issue, the CM shot back saying that the DMDK member should not talk about the issue in the House if he were going to file a plaint.Resuming, Subramanian moved on to a different topic. “Tiruttani is home to the famed 5th Padai Veedu of Lord Muruga. Bypass road should be laid to ease traffic congestion,” he said. Stepping in, Jayalalithaa said the DMDK members were taking classes. “While one DMDK MLA said that the Mettur dam is in Mettur, another is now saying that Tiruttani has the 5th Padai of Muruga. Don’t we know these things even if they don’t tell us?” she asked.
