Bangalore: In a major embarrassment for the BJP in Karnataka, BJP MLA Anand Singh has been arrested by the police and handed over to the CBI for interrogation in the mining scam worth thousands of crores.
Singh, one of the main accused in the illegal export of iron ore from Belekeri port in Karnataka, was hiding in Singapore to evade arrest by the CBI. His anticipatory bail application was dismissed by a CBI special court recently.
The politician had returned to Bangalore this morning. The airport police took him into custody and later handed him over to the CBI. The CBI is questioning him at its office in Bangalore.
Anand Singh is close to the Reddy brothers of Bellary. The Supreme Court ordered the CBI to probe the role of his mining companies SB minerals and Vaishnavi minerals in the scam.
Anand Singh had fled to Singapore after two MLAs from Bellary were arrested by the CBI. The CBI has so for arrested four sitting MLAs in the scam.
Anand Singh is BJP MLA from Vijayanagara constituency in Bellary district. He was tourism minister in the previous BJP government.
