Bengaluru: The Karnataka Health Department is fearing the spread of epidemics in the state this summer. The department had recently disclosed that 40,000 out of the 3 lakh samples of drinking water it collected, were found to be contaminated.
This accounts of 13% of the total samples drawn for testing. The Health department has said that majority of the samples were collected from Mysore, Chitradurga and Haveri districts.
"Information about the contamination has been shared with all district authorities. We collected close to 3,80,000 samples. Some of them were found to be contaminated beyond 20%. This is happening because external water sources are flowing in to the main source," the minister said.
