Bangalore: Karnataka Lokayukta raided the house and properties of IPS officer Hemant Nimbalkar along with some other officials in various government departments.
Even though the Lokayukta is yet to confirm actual amount recovered during the raids some reports suggest that Nimbalkar had allegedly amassed wealth worth several crores in benami land deals in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Nimbalkar is now with the Karnataka Anti Terrorism Squad. He was earlier the Superintendent of Police of Belgaum.
"As per our information he has assets in Mumbai, Kohlapur and Belgaum. We have been making discrete inquiries about his assets and we had information that he had asset though not in his name. The Mumbai assets are in his wife's name and the in Kohlapur and Belgaum he has property in his name as well as third parties. Therefore after verifying and satisfying ourselves that these properties acquired by him from the money which has been illegally earned by him, we have conducted this raid," said Lokayukta Officer Santosh Hegde.
