“The only secret of having a wonderful hair is to keep it clean,” says Jawed Habib, who has carved a niche for himself in hair-dressing and has performed 410 non-stop hair cuts in 25 hours and 42 minutes. Breaking myths for healthier and stylish tresses, Jawed says that hair education is necessary and involves science apart from salon tips. “I believe hair grooming is a science. A hair-dresser is both your doctor and your designer. He will know exactly what to do with your hair, according to your personality, skin tone and hair texture,” he explains. Giving an instance about what hair oil can do to our hair he says, “Hair oil is like a moisturiser and has nothing to do with hair growth. Especially in south India, where hair is naturally frizzy and dense, people who have been using hair oil for ages believe that it keeps the hair healthy. Oil only helps in bringing down the density of hair to manageable proportions.” Sharing some important tips on healthy tresses, Habib also stresses on using shampoo everyday. “Your hair is like your face, so you need to wash it everyday with a shampoo that suits that hair type. Most people believe that shampoo causes hair-loss, which is not correct. Shampoos contain chemicals, but so does soap. Your scalp needs to be cleaned just the way your face does.” Having travelled across the globe, Habib feels that shampooing is necessary to have a healthy hair, but to maintain the same, an individual needs to follow a proper diet. He says, “Hair growth depends on your diet. Having meals on time, consuming a lot of water and milk helps you maintain your tresses this scorching summer.”
