What could be a better way to celebrate rains than to have a car race, say the motor-sport lovers in Cochin.

Kerala: Unperturbed by the temple troubles members of Motorsport Association of India in Cochin organised a car race to enjoy the rains in a distinct manner.

Around 25 racers from across the country lined up in their machines for the flag-off.

"Our club members asked why we couldn’t do such an event in Kerala during the harshest time - the monsoons. Once we had that thoughts in our mind we set out on the roads, and fixed the route for the car race," said Organiser, Motorsport Association of India Shajan Daniel.

While, monsoons arrived in Kerala after a long interval, the motor-sport lovers are enjoying it by having a car race.

"Because its raining it must be slippery on the roads. I don’t know what speeds they have given us. Let's see how good we go," said Participant Jayaraj Menon.

Driving through the wet track along the Periyar Wild-life sanctuary from Cochin, the two-day adventure rally will touch Fort Kochi and coastal villages of Mattanchery covering a total distance of 518 km.

The event is supported by the Tourism department of Kerala as an effort to make the best use of the climate to attract as many tourists as possible to the state.

The car race rally has come at a time when most hotels in Kerala are faced with lowest occupancy rate due to the heavy rains.
