THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is planning to come up with a new special economic zone (SEZ) policy in line with the existing policy of the Central government. The draft of the State Industrial and Commercial Policy-2011 envisages to revamp Kerala into an entrepreneurial state by encouraging private investment in all sectors, especially agro processing, services and commerce. The policy also stresses on the establishment of small and micro enterprises, particularly in rural areas, to achieve employment generation and utilisation of local resources. With the Central government promoting industrial clusters, the new policy aims to create more industrial clusters, focusing on the food processing sector. The government will promote new industrial parks with quality infrastructure like roads, power, water, waste management etc. and upgrade infrastructure facilities in the existing parks. The new policy will also encourage investment in emerging sectors like food processing, forest-based industries, bio-technology and nano-technology-based industries for employment generation, economic growth and development. The govt will strive to introduce market-driven curriculum in professional institutions to develop skilled and efficient manpower.
