In a candid conversation at the CNN News18 Town Hall, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal delved into their relationship as co-stars and partners, revealing how they navigate the intricacies of working in the same industry.
When asked how much input they provide in each other’s careers, Zaheer shared, “A lot, actually. Especially for me, I’m much newer in the industry than her. So I like to take advantage of the fact that I have so much experience at home. I run everything by her to get her opinion on it."
Sonakshi echoed Zaheer’s sentiments, noting that their discussions often involve a mix of logic and emotion. “We are a great mix of logic and emotion," she explained. “When sometimes we approach something too logically, I say that little emotion should be there in your decision. And sometimes when I make a decision too emotionally, he reminds me to consider the logic behind it."
The couple’s chemistry is palpable as they reflect on their journey together. Zaheer candidly remarked, “We are very big chipkus. We love each other. As cliched and cheesy as it is, we love spending every single minute together." He added, “The biggest upside is that I get to spend more time with her, and we love waking up and going to Town Hall events together."
However, they also recognise the importance of maintaining professionalism on set. “On set, we try to keep it a little bit more professional," Sonakshi explained. “We don’t want to piss people off."
Zaheer further said that he respects Sonakshi’s established career a lot. “For me, I’m very different on set with her, because I feel that when a person has this kind of body of work behind them, they deserve and they command and they’ve earned a certain amount of respect, and you have to give that. You cannot take it for granted, be it her boyfriend or her brother or her sister or anybody. She’ll never take that for granted, because she’s worked really hard, and she has earned and deserves that respect. So, I always made sure that she’s my girlfriend, but I always made sure that if there was a shot, I would be there a minute before her."
While they are affectionate partners, they also recognise the importance of professionalism in their work environment. “I think I was very, very nice to him," Sonakshi mentioned, reflecting on her experience working with newcomers. “I’ve also worked with other newcomers, so I give them that space and that respect to kind of learn on the go, because that’s how I learned. Everything that I know about my job, that’s your playground, and you learn on that."
