ODDANCHATHIRAM: A police team on Saturday rescued a 12-year-old girl near Hosur, who was kidnapped while she was returning from school near Vedikaranvalasu village in Dindigul district on Friday. Rani (name changed), a 4th standard student of a private school at Palani, who was walking home via Kothaiam-Poolampatti road was allegedly kidnapped by a gang. As Rani didn’t return home till late in the evening, her family searched for her. in various places. Little later, Kuppusamy got a call from a gang which demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh to release his daughter. He immediately approached the police. Following a complaint from Kuppusamy, Dindigul SP T Jayachandran formed a special team, which tracked the cellphone signals and found out that the girl had been taken to Hosur. But, the gang somehow found out that police were nearing them. So, it dropped the girl near Hosur border and escaped from the spot, police said.
