Kodagu Central Varsity on the cards: Acharya

BANGALORE: Following the proposal made by the Kodava National Council for a separate central university dedicated to the study of Kodava ethnic culture, the Karnataka State Higher Education Council resolved on Wednesday to write to the Centre recommending the establishment of a Kodagu Central University similar to the one in Gulbarga.However, Minister for Higher Education V S Acharya said it would not deal with Kodava studies only. “We do not want to restrict it to just one subject.We will write to the Centre for a Central University in Kodagu region,” he said.The Council also considered to deliberate further on Karnataka Knowledge Commission’s proposal for Karnataka Scholarship Scheme for brownfield expansion of higher education in the state.“Scholarship programmes are mostly reserved for students belonging to backward classes,” said Acharya. He added that a Public Private Partnership model was on the cards for implementation of the scheme and the Principal Secretary would discuss this with KKC
