MARADU: The residents here can now look forward to brighter  nights with Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) planning to commission a new substation at Panangad in June. Once it is commissioned, the issue of low voltage in Maradu Municipality will be solved, said the KSEB authorities. The KSEB officials said that the decision to commission a substation at Maradu has been taken after locals complained of low voltage.“As of now, Maradu gets its supply of electricity from the substations at Vyttila and Kadavanthara. The distance between these substations and the area of supply has been causing transmission loss leading to low voltage. Once the substation is operational, complaints regarding the voltage can be resolved,” said G Radakrishan Pillai, KSEB executive engineer (Transmission Division).Maradu Municipal chairman T K Devarajan said that the delay in the project has put the people in a sorry state. “With various projects being implemented, Maradu is on its way to development. In such a situation, it is natural to increase the seamless supply of power,” he said. Devarajan also added that the new substation should cater to the requirements of adjacent areas.Meanwhile, Radakrishan Pillai said that the work on the proposed 11KV substation had reached its final stage and remaining works will be completed soon. “Though the commission work is expected to be completed only in June, the officials will strive for an earlier commissioning,” he added.
