HYDERABAD: The Kothagudem Thermal Power Project Stage-VI, Unit-11 (500 MW) commenced its commercial operations at Paloncha in Khammam district on Sunday.The new unit has been built at an estimated cost of `2,325 crore.With the start of commercial operation of the unit, APGenco's thermal capacity crossed 5,000 MW, reaching 5,092 MW.The installed capacity test for Unit-11 of KTPS-VI was successfully completed on Sunday in presence of representatives from four Discoms, APPSC and APTransco.The installed capacity of the KTPS complex has reached to 1,720 MW and APGenco has attained the total capacity of 8,923.9 MW.With this, the power utility added 500 MW to the AP grid and will be in position to supply additional 12 MU power per day.As part of its capacity addition programme, APGenco had taken up works on this unit.The raw water required for the project is supplied from Kinnerasani reservoir and also from Burghamphad pipe line project.The required coal of 2.31 million tones per annum will be linked from Mahanadi coalfields in Odisha.The new unit was synchronized with the grid in March 2011.APGenco has added 539 MW additional capacity during 2011-12.
