Kudumbasree brings women to forefront

KOCHI: The International Women’s Day celebrations organised by Kudumbasree, one of the largest womenempowering projects in the state, proclaimed women empowerment in all sense, on Thursday.Many female department heads of the district administration assembled in the district panchayat hall to celebrate this special day.District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth who inaugurated the function said that as Kudumbasree has become one of the influential institutions in the state, it should take a step forward in mitigating the issues against women and children.“In their attempt to make a better world, their families should extend them their full support,” he said.District Planning Officer, R Girija who was also a Kudumbasree coordinator in 2004 said that Kudumbasree has freed women from the fetters of fear and other social taboos.”They started out by making small investments which led them to micro enterprises. These are the examples of the fact that women have taken a giant leap through Kudumbasree,” she said. Additional District Magistrate said that Kudumbasree has brought women under one roof making their empowerment possible.Asha Varma Thampuratty, Principal Agriculture Officer said, “Along with social and economic empowerment, Kudumbasree has successfully brought about an interpersonal contacts within the group.Sharing and caring is of course an important aspect which was once forbidden to women.”
