Tamil: The first look and teaser of KV Anand’s much awaited film 'Maatraan', starring Suriya who plays conjoined twins, were released recently.
Speaking on the occasion, KV Anand said his movie was in no way similar to 'Charulatha' which features actor Priyamani in a similar role. “After reading such reports, I watched the original version. There isn’t any connection between the two movies except for the fact that the protagonists are conjoined twins.”
The director said 'Maatraan' was inspired by an article he read while on a Chennai-bound flight about Thai twins. “The article was about Eng and Chang who lived in the 19th century. I found their lives interesting and then thought of making a movie about conjoined twins,” he said.
Though Suriya and K V Anand discussed about making 'Maatraan' before their earlier collaboration 'Ayan', it didn’t materialise as they found it difficult to make such a movie with the kind of technology the industry then had.
“Later, Suriya called me and asked about reviving the’ story of the twins and we took it forward from there,” said K V Anand.
The 'Ko' director said Suriya plays Akilan and Vimalan, who are completely different in terms of character.
“We still have to shoot a song. Some patch up work also has to be completed. A lot has to be done in the graphics department too,” he said.
The filmmaker added that songs of the music, set to tune by Harris Jayaraj, would be released soon.
