New Delhi: The alleged mastermind of the Lajpat Nagar heist case has surrendered to the police. According to sources, Ajay surrendered to the Madangir police early on Monday.
Ajay is reportedly a relative of the juvenile already apprehended by the police in the case.
The total number of arrests in the case is now five. Three accused had been arrested on Saturday.
The police say they are interrogating Ajay to know the whereabouts of two other suspects who are absconding. The police are also carrying out raids across Haryana to recover the money.
Over Rs 7 crore were stolen from a Honda City car in Lajpat Nagar last week. The car belonged to Rajesh Kalra, who was named in the 2000 Hansie Cronje match-fixing scandal. The car had also been reportedly used by Vindu Dara Singh who was arrested in May 2013 over the IPL betting scandal.
Police now suspect that the money Kalra was carrying was a hawala pay-off for illegal betting.
