CUTTACK: Senior advocate of the Orissa High Court Bijay Kumar Pal passed away on Sunday at his Bakharabad residence here. He was 77 and survived by his two sons and a daughter.Considered a legal luminary of the State, Pal was a member of the Rules Committee of the Orissa High Court.Son of an eminent lawyer Late Bimal Krushna Pal, Bijay did his graduation in Science from Vidyadhar College, Kolkata, in 1959. He got admission in SCB Medical College, Cuttack, to pursue his career goal as a doctor, but ill-health prevented him from continuing his MBBS studies. He then joined the Madhusudan Law College and became a Law Graduate in 1962.In his legal career spanning over five decades, he was the Standing Counsel of Indian Railway in 1980 and counsel for many leading corporate bodies.He also held positions as the general secretary of Indian Association of Lawyers, State Committee, and the treasurer of All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation, Odisha, for many years.
