New Delhi: Lenovo has announced the world's first Android Ice Cream Sandwich TV on the eve of the CES 2012. Named the K91, it is a 55-inch IPS 3D HDTV that runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a first for smart TVs. Please note that it is not using Google's TV software, which is based on an earlier version of Android, codenamed Honeycomb, reports The Telegraph.

Its smart "Sandwich" UI unites three major smart TV functions, including Video On Demand (VOD), Internet applications and traditional TV programs. With cloud support, consumers can access their favorite songs and videos with ease, share files between the TV and their tablet, smartphone or PC, and even control the TV via tablet and smartphone.

According to the Verge, a technology website, its two most notable features are its operating system and central processor i.e., Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running on Qualcomm's 1.5GHz dual-core 8060 Snapdragon CPU. "The TV can be controlled with your voice using natural language processing and recognition, and even includes video interaction (with facial recognition) thanks to a 5 megapixel webcam that's integrated into the bezel," reports The Verge.

Other specs of this device include 802.11n Wi-Fi, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage with an extra 2GB on removable SD card, access to the Android Market and Lenovo Store and much more. However, the company has not disclosed any information on release dates and prices as yet. The TV set, however, will initially only be for sale in China.

This K91 Smart TV will join other smart TVs, which are scheduled to be announced at the CES 2012 in Las Vegas.
